WESTLOCK — The Town of Westlock fire department is taking a proactive step to protect residents during the wildfire season.  

In a Facebook post Wednesday morning, the fire department notified residents of an outdoor procedure occurring today, April 24, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. this evening, “along the CN right-of-way through town.”

“Westlock fire department, in partnership with CN Rail and Westlock County fire department, will be conducting controlled hazard reduction burns," read the statement. 

The notice also said that the public should expect visible smoke during these times, and not to panic, “as this is a controlled operation to reduce future fire hazards.”
