Snow, rain to continue in Athabasca area

Environment Canada's seven-day forecast is calling for up to 4 cm of snow and up to 15 mm of rain in the next 48 hours.

ATHABASCA — Farmers, firefighters, and Athabasca locals paying attention to the drought conditions across the province are getting what they asked for, with mixed rain and snow hitting the area for the next 48 hours. 

According to Environment Canada’s seven-day forecast, the Athabasca region will see a mix of snow and rain throughout the morning and over lunchtime, with precipitation changing to rain in the early afternoon.

Between two to four centimetres of snow are expected, and between five to 10 millimetres of rain. Winds are predicted to reach up to 40 kilometres per hour, and the daytime high will be around 5 C. 

Another five millimetres of rain is anticipated to continue overnight and into Wednesday, halting near noon. A mix of sun and cloud is forecast for the afternoon, with temperatures reaching as high as 10 C. 

Although a mix of sun cloud is forecast for the remainder of the week, precipitation past Wednesday is not expected as of Tuesday, April 30. 

Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 12 C Thursday through Saturday, with highs of 18 C and 19 C anticipated Sunday and Monday, respectively.
