The Westlock Midget Warriors are off to the second round of the zone playoffs following a 10-3 Sunday night win over the St. Albert Flyers.

The club trailed St. Albert 6-4 after Game 1 of the two-game, total-goals series played Jan. 22 in Westlock.

The Warriors opened the weekend with a 7-5 road win Jan. 28 over Winfield in Tier 3 1660 Hockey League action.

'The last number of games we've done really well," commented head coach Rick Dutchak. 'We haven't lost many. We lost the one provincial game the other day, but we were only down by two, so we can easily turn that around."

The Warriors were able to capitalize on the return of their captain, Levi Cohoe, though they lost two players to suspensions during the Winfield game during their third battle with the fourth place rivals.

'We'll have to work through that, but both of our goalies are back too," said Dutchak. 'I'm pretty optimistic we'll do well."

Dutchak commented that while it was important to remain positive, being too confident might work against them.

'We took Winfield too lightly," noted Dutchak. 'The biggest thing is not letting off once we have a lead. We need to not let the other team back into the game and stay out of the penalty box."

The Warriors road trip continues when they play Fort Saskatchewan Feb. 3 and Lamont Feb. 5. The Lamont game was supposed to go down Jan. 27, but had to be rescheduled for logistical reasons.

The Warriors will be back on home ice to face Slave Lake Feb. 17.
