Kyla Larder is the Westlock Golf Club Ladies Open champion for 2018 after shooting and 80 in the first round and 86 in the second round to go into a three-hole playoff against 2015 champ Madison McVeety.

After two days on the course, including one that saw the skies open up to drench the golfers during play, the Westlock Golf Club's Ladies Open came down to a three-hole playoff.

The two-day tournament, held Aug. 11-12, saw Kyla Larder come out on top with a score of 86 against 2015 champion Madison McVeety, who was in top spot following the first round, shooting a 77. Larder was three shots behind McVeety, at 80, going into the final round, but made up for it on the second day to force the playoff.

"It was good," said club golf pro Kevin Lynes of the tournament after final round Sunday. "There was quite a difference in weather from yesterday to today, but the ladies persevered."

"It was a grind, but they all made it through the weather."

With 40 golfers hitting the links, this year's Ladies Open saw nearly twice as many golfers enter the tournament as last year, said Lynes, who added there is always room for more.

"I'm just happy the ladies get to go home and warm up and dry out," said Lynes.

Next up for the club is the 180K Par 3 Shootout on Aug. 25 where each of the 18 holes will be transformed into par 3 challenges. Each hole has a $10,000 prize attached to it

"Our Par 3 Shootout is probably our largest tournament of the year. We put $10,000 up for every hole, so there's $180,000 up for grabs on that day and hopefully someone will get the hole-in-one and win the big prize," said Lynes.

There are still three team spaces left for the shootout. Contact the club for more information.
