Area residents are reporting significant damage as a thunderstorm delivered not only severe wind and rain, but golf-ball-sized hail.
Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm watches early afternoon July 20, which were upgraded to severe thunderstorm warnings across much of central Alberta later in the day.
The storm rolled through around 4 p.m. that afternoon, lasting nearly an hour, flooding gutters, knocking leaves off trees and damaging gardens and crops across the region.
While some dime-sized hail fell in the town, outlying areas near Pickardville and the Westlock Golf Club, west of town, seemed to take the brunt of the largest hail, which grew to nearly the size of a tennis ball in some instances.
