While two games were rained out last week, the Grey Lions continued their winning ways June 14 at Keller Field routing the Spruce Grove Eagles 10-0 to improve to 5-1 in the Alberta West Central Baseball Association.

“Everything went well tonight,” said skipper Sheldon McConaghy. “If we keep rolling that way, it’ll be good. We’re gonna keep doing what we’re doing.”

Westlock got started early stopping the Eagles with a double play followed by an out at first.

McConaghy started the feeding frenzy with a bases-loaded single to end the first inning with a 1-0 lead.

Neither team scored until the bottom of the third when Rick Sereda knocked a long drive to the edge of right field, bringing home another run.

Then with bases loaded, Curtis Smith hit a home run to give the club a 5-0.

The Lions continued their dominance in the next inning when a sacrifice by Ryan Rau brought home another run. Carmen Brown then hit a single, bringing a second run home and Sereda hit another long single to collect a third. Smith added another to the board to end the fourth with a 9-0 lead.

The Lions finished the fifth inning with another run to make the final 10-0.

McConaghy said they’ve in a good groove.

“After a long layoff we came out and had a really well pitched game by Carmen and some good timely hits, with a big home run from Curtis,” said McConaghy.

“If we keep things the same, it’s a good recipe for success.”

Westlock was supposed to play a rematch against the Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox June 12 and the Edmonton Brewers June 15, but both games were rained out.

The Lions will next take to Keller Field on June 22 when they play host to the Edmonton Heat.
