The Rotary Spirit Centre ice will be going back in for the sixth-annual Bellz Edge Hockey Camp, which runs Aug. 12-18.

The Bellz Edge Hockey Camp skates into Westlock Aug. 12-18 for a sixth-consecutive year.

“It’s for anybody ages five to 16 who just wants to get better at hockey and have some fun. There’s really no limit,” said camp founder Gordon Bell.

“We’ve had a great community behind us since Day 1 and that’s definitely been a huge part of why we’re still going and been so successful.”

Participants receive two ice sessions daily, dry-land and shooting training, plus a lunch.

Following the week of training, the camp concludes with a tournament.

“It’s like the Stanley Cup, but smaller.”

Because of the camp’s growing popularity, “we figured just the one week would be a little more manageable.”

Bell is hoping to extend the camp to Morinville in the future, when the town opens its new multi-million dollar arena.

“It’s going to be within the next year or two,” said Bell.

“It’s kind of why we made the move for one week. It’s in anticipation for doing a week in Morinville.”

On Aug. 18, the players from the camp will also play against the senior Westlock Warriors

“It is a fundraiser game for Westlock Warriors. We take some of the promising young kids in the Westlock area and play against the Westlock Warriors senior team. We raise money for those guys,” said Bell.

“It’s certainly a community camp, everyone gets involved and it’s very special that way.”

This year the camp has 115 children registered with very few available spots left.
