Nisha Buksh had a day all golfers dream about.

Competing in the July 6 Westlock Golf Course Seniors Open, Buksh aced the par three sixth hole on her way to claiming the event’s championship women’s flight.

Sinking a hole-in-one was an act that surprised and thrilled golfing partners Darlene Smith and Debbie Shoemaker.

“I heard it subtly rattle the pin and couldn’t believe it” said Smith just after the hole in one.

“It just took a little roast beef,” said Buksh with a smile.

And if you’re wondering how rare an ace is, most experts peg the odds at 12,500 to one.

“We maybe get one or two a year,” assistant pro shop manager Mark Ritter.

The sixth hole is 182 yards from the blue and white tees and 170 yards from the reds where Buksh shot from.

Shotgun starts in groups of three and four competitors began at 9 a.m. and the annual tournament boasted 62 golfers, including 14 women.

Buksh finished the front nine with a 38 and completed the round with an 84 to win the low gross title.

Coming in second place was Debbie Shoemaker who shot an 87.

The net gross victor for the woman’s category was Sandra Truckey who shot a 73 (97 with a 24 handicap).

On the men’s side Norm Miller took the championship low gross title by shooting a 74, while Dennis Savy finished second with an 80.

Finally, Alvin Baron claimed the low net title with a 66 (77 with an 11 handicap).

Buksh will get a chance to for another ace at the Aug. 26 at the Westlock Golf Course’s upcoming par three shootout where competitors have 18 chances to win $10,000 by shooting a hole-in-one.
