The Mountie Park washrooms are now unusable after an unknown vehicle smashed through the facility’s cement wall during the early morning hours of July 14.

Westlock RCMP Const. David said they were tipped off about the crushed wall at approximately 2 a.m. When they arrived on scene, the vehicle responsible was nowhere to been seen. Police patrolled the streets but were unable to find a vehicle that looked like it had crashed into a wall.

Town of Westlock Community Services director Mike Butler said that in all his years he had never seen anything like this.

“I’ve been in this business for 30 years and I thought I’ve seen it all, but this is a new one for me,” he said. “I can’t say I’ve had too much experience with this.”

Butler said there was no danger of gas leaks from the damage and that all utilities to the facility had been shut down. Both sides of the washroom have been closed until repairs can be completed.

All campers will be allowed to use the showers and washrooms in the Rotary Spirit Centre free of cost until the facility is repaired.

Butler added that he would not know the costs of repairing the facility until the town gets an estimate from an insurance company.

However, Butler said he suspected that the entire bathroom would have to be replaced.
