Flatbush Rocks will return next month for one more year of barbecue, beer and rock ’n’ roll.

Hosted by the Flatbush Community Association, this year’s annual concert, slated for July 16, features Tragically Hip cover band The Hip Show with guest performers the Mourning Wood.

On the heels of last year’s event, which was nearly Flatbush’s last, some are calling the show’s revival a miracle of sorts, thanks largely to the effort of hard-working community members and volunteers.

FCA member and Flatbush Rocks founder Kandee Stadnyk said she’s happy the event has returned.

“I was really excited to have our community members step up,” Stadnyk said.

Overrun by stress after five years at the helm, Stadnyk said she was rescued by a group of friends and community league members who decided the show was too important to let die.

“I was definitely disappointed knowing that it was possible that we wouldn’t be able to continue with the concert. I just couldn’t do it all by myself. It was just too much work,” she said.

“Everybody has such a good time. It’s really important to keep the community spirit alive. I was quite disappointed and hoping that some people would step forward and help and they did.”

Fellow FCA member and event organizer Cristy Paly said that when she and a group of friends from Flatbush saw how much difficulty Stadnyk was having with the event.

“She had done it for five years and we decided that we as a community needed to come together,” Paly said. “This is [the FCA’s] main event. The FCA looked back and said they wanted to have two bigger community events — the Flatbush Festival was one, but Flatbush Rocks was more geared for adults.”

New this year, the FCS have added an early-bird draw for tickets. Tickets bought before July 3 will be entered to win two Flatbush Rocks concert shirts, 10 drink tickets, a round of golf for four at the Flatbush River Valley Golf Course year-end tournament, a two-night stay at the Hallywood Campground and RV park, and a round of golf for two at the Hidden Valley Golf Course.

Tickets are available at the Flatbush General Store, Westlock Inn, and Dapp Corner Store for $40. VIP tickets are also available for $500 and include a table for 10, free event camping and 10 drink tickets with food included.
