A 40-year-old Athabasca woman is dead following a Saturday-afternoon head-on crash between a motorcycle and truck.

Westlock RCMP report that at 1:30 p.m. on May 7, an Athabasca woman was riding her motorcycle south on Highway 2 near Nestow when she crossed the centre line on a curve in the road and struck an oncoming truck — she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic on the stretch of highway was temporarily diverted for the collision analyst’s investigation.

In a release RCMP Cpl. Lee Grieco-Savoy said alcohol was not a factor, but did report that the woman was a new motorcyclist which may have contributed to the collision.

Grieco-Savoy also noted that the woman’s family has been notified and that Victim Services was assisting. The woman’s name was not released by RCMP.
