Wacky Saturday is back
Second annual event will be held along Main Street on June 2
Get ready to be Wacky in Westlock.
The family fun day known as “Wacky Saturday,” which was resurrected last year after a hiatus of nearly two decades, will again be held this Saturday, June 2 along Main Street.
The event is being organized by the Westlock Family and Community Support Services program, in conjunction with the Town of Westlock.
FCSS executive director Jayme Baxter said they’re hoping to make Wacky Saturday into an annual event.
She noted that they didn’t get as much corporate sponsorship as they were hoping for, but “as the event gains popularity, we’re hoping that it will get that.”
Baxter indicated that they tried hard this year to include an even bigger line-up than last year’s family fun day.
Baxter said Wacky Saturday goes ahead rain or shine, though some things get moved inside if the weather turns foul.
“It’s going to be a fabulous event, full of fun for the whole family,” she said.
Wacky Saturday will run from roughly noon to 4 p.m. Attractions include numerous sidewalk sales, barbecues, activities for young kids like face painters and a fish pond, and some contests for adults as well.
Many groups and organizations like to coincide their fundraisers with the onset of Wacky Saturday.
For instance, the Hope Resource Centre is hosting an outdoor ‘zumba’ and ‘jazzercise’ class where the participants will raise money for the program.
